Individuals and organizations in the modern society produce diverse digital objects everyday, which are not only valuable information resources at present but also will be invaluable digital heritage for the future generation. TRAC(Trustworthy Repositories Audit & Certification: Criteria & Checklist) is one of the evaluating tools against which digital archives could be assessed for their preparedness to perform the task of long-term preservation. The current study uses TRAC to assess OASIS(Online Archiving & Searching Internet Source). The results show that the web archive has a greater room for strengthening in the object management infrastructure than in organizational and technical infrastructures.
In bibliographic data, the use of personal names to indicate authors makes it difficult to specify a particular author since there are numerous authors whose personal names are the same. Resolving same-name author instances into different individuals is called author resolution, which consists of two steps: calculating author similarities and then clustering same-name author instances into different person groups. Author similarities are computed from similarities of author-related bibliographic features such as coauthors, titles of papers, publication information, using supervised or unsupervised methods. Supervised approaches employ machine learning techniques to automatically learn the author similarity function from author-resolved training samples. So far, however, a few machine learning methods have been investigated for author resolution. This paper provides a comparative evaluation of a variety of recent high-performing machine learning techniques on author disambiguation, and compares several methods of processing author disambiguation features such as coauthors and titles of papers.
This study sought to develop an integrated information literacy curriculum that would have a strong relationship with curricula through the standard themes abstracted from theme network structures, scan and cluster analyses of the information literacy curricula. In addition, this study also attempted to develop a teaching-learning model for the developed integrated information literacy curriculum. This study utilized the themes of information literacy instruction that have interdisciplinary characteristics as analysis criteria in analyzing the commonality of information literacy instruction and the subject curricula. The following characteristics were found from the analyzing the areas of commonality. Foremost, the first themes(the fields of basic learning skills and nature) which belongs to the fields of information society, library, information technology, collaborative skills were found to have many relationships with the subject curricula. Next, the second themes(the field of information problem solving capabilities) which is the core field of information literacy instruction showed a weak relationship with the subject curricula.
The purposes of this study are to explore FRBR utilities such as work clustering and expression clustering and problems of application of the FRBR by developing work and expression clustering algorithm and implementing it into cataloging system, and to suggest new cataloging rules for FRBR and guideline of MARC description to improve FRBR work clustering. FRBR was suggested by necessitation of collocation function of bibliographic records according to increase of searching materials and multi-version materials, but FRBRization has some problems such as imperfect conversion of bibliographic records to FRBR records and inappropriateness of current cataloging rules for FRBR. Bibliographic records must be processed by FRBR algorithm to construct FRBRized system, but bibliographic records and current cataloging rules couldn't perfectly support FRBRization. Therefore cataloging rules and guidelines of MARC description for FRBR are needed. For constructing FRBRized cataloging system in Korea, it is needed to find problems and solution through FRBR practical application such as developing FRBR algorithm and applying it to cataloging records.
This thesis presents the methods and tool development of performance assessment as final stage for information literacy instruction of teacher-librarians. The evaluation is an important part in information literacy instruction of teacher-librarians in the school libraries. But until now, there is little research on evaluation methodologies in the instructional activities of teacher-librarians. There is only evaluation domain presented in the primary and secondary ‘Information and the Library’ curriculum. To develop an evaluation model as a base for measuring performance assessment related to teacher- librarians is important. The goal of this thesis is to provide teacher-librarians with basic principles to develop many kinds of performance assessment tools in their own instructional activities.
As time goes by, the function and role of website become more important. Therefore, it is very critical to evaluate and improve continuously the website to the purpose. Many previous studies show that some website evaluation factors will influence the user satisfaction and revisit to the website. The website evaluation criteria from the previous studies related to the university library website evaluation were classified into five assessment criteria which are design, contents, user interface, reliability, and site management. In the results, some significant suggestions were found out. User satisfaction is seriously affected by user interface, and user's intention to revisit is influenced by contents and reliability, but there may not be a close connection between them. Besides, the evaluation method in this study may be applicable to the new website-improving approach of website administrators and researchers.
This study examines firstly concept and present condition of Policy Customer Relationship Management(PCRM) system which applying in the governmental dimension Customer Relationship Management(CRM) system of enterprises(profit-making organizations), comparison of PCRM and CRM, and definition of customer and customer classification process as a key of PCRM. Next, investigates applying plan in the other special libraries of governmental institution through the case study of Information Center on North Korea(special library attached to the Ministry of Unification) and relationship with different connection systems attempted in e-government(Enterprise Architecture). This study was conducted under the premise of providing the model for the construction of the library and the digital library in PUST, the joint construction from South and North Korea. First, we determined the problems in the construction of digital libraries as well as possible issues that may rise from the construction of the digital library in PUST. The results of the research showed that there were imminent problems from the operation of a digital library with the inadequate progress in the field of copyright. In addition, the difference in the language system and the knowledge foundations of the two countries will produce problems in the homepage access, database construction, and information retrieval. In order to overcome these predictable problems, this research proposes the following: (1) parallel operation of both digital and high-drive libraries; (2) duplexing the homepage through the application of unicode concerning the digital library; (3) development and application of converted letter codes through the establishment of NCHAR data type; and (4) construction of an authority database.
As social institution, the public libraries in changing social environment are required to adopt a more systematic and efficient managerial strategy, only to function properly and to achieve the given goal. In this context, the specialization of the public libraries means the provision of information and library services through differentiation and focus strategy, and should be realized for the efficient library management. In order to examine the specialization of the public libraries in Korea, this study builds the theoretical background of the specialization of the public libraries, looks into the current situation of the public libraries, investigates and analyzes the specialization of the public libraries in terms of information and library services, and suggests some recommendation for improvement. By so doing this study aims at enhancing our understanding of the specialization of the libraries as a whole.
This study aims to propose a set of guidelines for the development of university librarians’ continuing education program. It examines previous academic literature regarding such programs both in Korea and overseas, as well as the present condition and demands of Korean university librarians. A survey was conducted by systematically sampling 33.3% of all university librarians nationwide and asking about their experiences with the existing continuing education program(e.g., general satisfaction level, program topics, program administration, evaluation methods, outreach methods, reasons for participation). The survey results show that the participants: (1) had a relatively low satisfaction level; (2) strongly demand programs focusing on library promotion, management of information resources and knowledge content, and skills to adjust to the rapidly changing library environment; (3) prefer a week-long course focused on specialized subjects and skill development; and (4) cite more specialized education content, the establishment of a support system, and diversified education levels as factors that would further their interest in the continuing education program.
This study is based on the practical use for distributed resources considering growing network rapidly. The focal point of this study will be argued on semantic interoperability for sharing of resources, not be emphasized the technical issues of network. The aim of this article is developing the model of Collection-Level Description(CLD) for sharing of resources. The present article consists of a definition of collection in relation to the scope, objectives, and agents of the collection and an analysis of researches about CLD strengths and standards. Lastly, it was intended to construct the model focused on relation which was needed to be strengthened the existing CLD's function, thus, this study attempted to use the concept of ontology. The model of CLD based on ontology suggested the description could represent new relations inferred between classes and properties. Distinguishing class and property, furthermore, this study suggested properties were separated the characteristic of class and the relation with classes.
The purpose of this study was to try to describe types of invasion of privacy caused by excessive information seeking on mass media. Recent 5 years of cases were gathered and analyzed to see the types of invasion of privacy, and extracted only those cases showing the results by excessive information seeking. This study conducted meta-analysis of librarians' job satisfaction using the Hedges & Olkin's Effect Size Model. Sex and Marrage as group variables, and Total Satisfaction and 7 sub-variables(Work Itself, Salary, Promotion, Supervision, Working Conditions, Social Recognition, Self-actualization) as dependent variables were selected from 27 studies. The effect sizes between men and women were significantly different on Supervision, Working conditions, Promotion, and Social Recognition, of which first two were homogeneous. But the difference of Social Recognition was not significant in Random Effect Model. The effect sizes difference between married and unmarried were significant on Self Recognition, Salary, and Work Itself. However the difference of Work Itself was not significant in Random Effect Model. Study Year could not be a moderator.
Although the native local data is being deemed important in the age where historical records are regarded as important, currently it is hard to find out detailed actual state of local data, because it is now being collected and managed by many institutions and individuals. This study is aimed at surveying the current state of management of native local data possessed by local cultural center, one of institutions that produce and manage local data, and suggesting a desired alternative idea of cultural center for management of native local data, through the problems found by the research. As the result, the current state of data management of the local cultural center are as follows: First, local data management in the local cultural center as the problem in poor surroundings and a financial question get local data-related education make systematic data collection and management unavailable. Second, local data depends on the extent of its awareness of it, each and every cultural center shows a significant deviation in the extent of execution of local data-related project. Third, even though the publication business of the cultural center is being lively executed, it attaches importance to the history of local authority rather than to the residents’ life, and it should not be supplemented in applying it to education and production of cultural contents.
To develop a public services framework for the promotion of the public records use of the regional archives in Korea, we analyzed the previous related studies and observed the public services of the renowned overseas regional archives through the we sites. Then, the web 2.0 technology and its application to archives services have been studied. Based on the analysis, a public services framework consisting of 4 phases such as basic services, extended services I, extended services Ⅱ, interactive services was developed. This framework of 4 phases is not a fixed universal system. Each of the regional archives would select the services they offer according to the budget, personnel, as well as the user community. Finally, community survey, user satisfaction evaluation, and the establishment of specific service guidelines are suggested for the advancement of the public services.

With the rapid distribution and active usage of the Internet, information search and retrieval through Internet has become a primary form of information access. This ubiquity of information access through Internet means the increased significance of search performance offered by Internet portals, since the optimization of search performance by portal has strong implication for the effective access of information through Internet in general. In this context, this paper investigates the classification scheme used in the directory service of internet portals, which provides selected and organized access to Internet information. First, the author analyzes the deployment of directory classification of standard subdivision topics used in traditional library classification system, with emphasis on the table composed of the form and approach, which are applicable to diverse subject areas. Then, based on this analysis, he proposed a method of applying certain subdivisions of the standard subdivision to directory service of Internet portals.
The need for overall assessment of economic effectiveness of library culture program has been suggested, as its importance continues to grow. Our study proposed a new assessment method by applying DM format and IBM format to contingent valuation method that has been used for analyzing the economic value of culture program. This study also illustrates the process through case analysis so that the public library can apply this model. It is meaningful that the study provides basic framework to evaluate the fair value of the public library by minimizing the bias that the contingent valuation method has.
