Abstract

Emerging Web 2.0 services such as Twitter, Blogs, and Wikis alongside the poorly- structured and immeasurable growth of information requires an enhanced information organization approach. Ontology has received much attention over the last 10 years as an emerging approach for enhancing information organization. However, there is little penetration into current systems. The purpose of this study is to propose ontology implementation and methodology. To achieve the goal of this study, limitations of traditional information organization approaches are addressed and emerging information organization approaches are presented. Two ontology data models, RDF/OW and Topic Maps, are compared and then ontology development processes and methodology with topic maps based medical information retrieval system are addressed. The comparison of two data models allows users to choose the right model for ontology development.

의견 검색은 사용자의 정보 요구에 주제적으로 연관되면서도 의견이 포함되어 있는 정보를 검색하는 태스크이다. 본 연구는 효과적인 의견 검색을 위해 사용자 정보 요구를 표현하는 방법과 이 요구를 만족시킬만한 여러 의견 자질들을 효과적으로 결합할 수 있는 방법에 대하여 실험을 통해 분석하였다. 본 실험에서는 추론 네트워크 모델을 기본 검색 모델로 사용하였고, Blogs06 컬렉션과 100개의 TREC 토픽에 대해 실험을 수행하였다. 실험 결과, 가상의 ‘의견’ 개념을 설정하여 효과적으로 의견 검색의 정보 요구를 표현할 수 있었으며, 극히 소량의 일반 의견 단어집만을 사용했는데도 동일한 환경에서 기존 모델과 견줄 만한 의견 검색 성능을 달성할 수 있었다.

Abstract

Opinion retrieval is to retrieve items which are relevant to the user information need topically and include opinion about the topic. This paper aims to find a method to represent user information need for effective opinion retrieval and to analyze the combination methods for opinion features through various experiments. The experiments are carried out in the inference network framework using the Blogs06 collection and 100 TREC test topics. The results show that our suggested representation method based on hidden ‘opinion’ concept is effective, and the compact model with very small opinion lexicon shows the comparable performance to the previous model on the same test data set.

Abstract

In recent years, the changes in information technology have been so dramatic and the rate of changes has increased so much that information science research rigorously evolves with the passage of time and proliferates in diverging research directions dynamically. The aims of this study are to provide a global overview of research trends in information science and to trace its changes in the main topics over time. The study examined the topics of research articles published in JASIST between 1985 and 2009 and identified its changes during five 5 year periods. The study found that the most productive area has consistently been ‘Information Retrieval’, followed by ‘Informetrics’, ‘Information Use and Users’, ‘Network and Technology’, and ‘Publishing and Services’. Information retrieval is a predominant core area in Information Science covering computer-based handling of multimedia information, employment of new semantic methods from other disciplines, and mass information handling on virtual environments. Currently Informetric studies shift from finding existing phenomena to seeking valuable descriptive results and researchers of information use have concentrated especially on information-seeking aspects, so adding greater sophistication to the relatively simple approach taken in information retrieval.

본 연구는 우리나라 대표적인 정보학분야 학회지인 『정보관리학회지』에 25년 동안에 발표된 학술논문을 대상으로 동향분석을 시도하여 각 시기별 우리나라 정보학분야의 학문적 구조와 그 변화를 파악하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저 25년을 1984-1994, 1995-2002, 2003-2009로 나눈 다음, 각 기간별 『정보관리학회지』에 실린 학술논문의 주제를 분석한 후 각 논문의 주제분포, 주제영역별 논문의 증감, 주제영역별 연도 분포를 살펴보았다. 또한 논문의 표제어를 이용하여 기간별 정보학의 지적 구조를 생성하였고 세 개의 지적 구조를 비교하여 정보학 연구의 변화를 분석하였다. 그 결과 『정보관리학회지』 연구의 주요 대주제 영역은 ‘정보서비스’, ‘정보조직’ 그리고 ‘정보시스템’이며 소주제 영역은 도서관서비스, 이용자연구, 자동문헌처리, 도서관통합시스템, 시소러스/온톨로지, 디지털도서관인 것으로 나타났다. 또한 표제어의 지적 구조를 분석한 결과, 정보학의 핵심영역은 여전히 정보검색이지만 각종 도서관이나 시스템에 활용된 정보기술 기법이나 서비스 평가에 대한 연구가 점점 늘어나고 이에 대한 주제영역이 확장되고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Abstract

The aims of this study were to provide a global overview of research trends in information science and to trace its changes in the main research topics over time using trends analysis. The study examined the topics of research articles published in Journal of Korean Society for Information Management between 1984 and 2009. Rather than taking a single snapshot of a given point in time, this study attempted to present a series of such pictures in order to identify trends over time. The fairly arbitrary decision was taken to divide the period under consideration into three ‘publication windows’: 1984-1994, 1995-2002, 2003-2009. The study revealed that the most productive areas were ‘Information Service’, followed by ‘Information Organization’, and ‘Information System’. The most productive sub-areas were ‘Library Service’, ‘User Study’, ‘Automatic Document Analysis’, ‘ILS’, ‘Thesaurus/Ontology’, and ‘Digital Library’. From the comparisons of intellectual structures of title keywords, the key research area in the field of Information Science was ‘Information Retrieval’. The studies of IT applications and service system evaluation have been expanded.

Abstract

Titles have been regarded as having effective clustering features, but they sometimes fail to represent the topic of a document and result in poorly generated document clusters. This study aims to improve the performance of document clustering with titles by suggesting titles in the citation bibliography as a clustering feature. Titles of original literature, titles in the citation bibliography, and an aggregation of both titles were adapted to measure the performance of clustering. Each feature was combined with three hierarchical clustering methods, within group average linkage, complete linkage, and Ward's method in the clustering experiment. The best practice case of this experiment was clustering document with features from both titles by within-groups average method.

본 연구에서는 2000년부터 2009년까지 10년 동안 국내의 학술지에 발표된 사회 연결망 분석과 관련된 논문들을 대상으로 하여 연도별 연구논문 추이와 학문분야별로 구분하여 연구동향을 분석하였다. 연구결과 사회 연결망 분석을 적용한 연구는 총 163편으로서 연차적으로 증가하여 수행되고 있으며, 특히 최근에 많은 연구들이 발표되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 사회연결망 분석은 다양한 분야에서 적용되고 있었고 특히 경영학, 교육학, 행정학 분야 등에서 많이 적용되고 있는 것으로 나타났으며 단독연구보다는 공동연구가 많은 것으로 나타났다. 문헌정보학 분야에서는 웹계량정보학을 포함한 계량정보학 분야에서 최근 들어 상대적으로 많이 사용되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 정보학 영역에 있어 사회 연결망 분석의 접목 가능성을 확인하고, 향후 사회 연결망 분석을 정보학에 활용하기 위한 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것이다.

Abstract

In this study, we analyzed the research trend of social network analysis. We investigated how this topic can be linked to the information science. We analyzed 163 articles that were retrieved from searching “social network analysis” in the keyword search field from 2000 to 2009. The study revealed the fast growth of the research of social network analysis in recent years. Also, the study showed that social network analysis has been applied to many cognate disciplines including management science, education science, and administration science. Finally, the study showed that social network analysis is a field equally important to information science as to other disciplines. Particularly, the study demonstrated that social network analysis can be applied to bibliometrics, including webmetrics.
