초록

Abstract

This study examines and compares public library services for immigrants in the U.S. in the early 1900s and nowadays. U.S. public libraries in the early 1900s supported the Americanizing movement by opening English language classes and providing information that is essential for U.S. citizenship. Public librarians also recognized the importance of foreign language materials; by providing foreign language materials and developing diverse services to reach immigrants, public libraries eventually hastened assimilation processes. Despite a gap of one hundred years, the situation today is not very different. Public libraries still try hard to serve their ethnic patrons with extensive foreign- language collections and culturally diverse library programs, while still emphasizing English language education.

본 연구는 복합적인 주제 영역인 이민정책에 관한 다양한 정보를 효과적으로 조직하고 최적의 정보 서비스를 제공할 수 있는 분류표를 개발하기 위해 관련 문헌 연구와 다양한 문헌분류표를 조사하였다. 먼저, 문헌 연구를 통해 이민정책의 학문적 개념과 범주를 정의하고, 이를 바탕으로 핵심 주제 영역을 선정하였다. 다음으로, 듀이십진분류표, 미의회도서관분류표, 한국십진분류표, 국제십진분류표에서 이민정책 분야의 구조와 전개 항목, 특성을 비교 분석하였다. 그리고 이들 분류표 중 전 세계적으로 가장 많이 사용하고 있으며, 정기적으로 개정되고 있는 DDC 23판을 바탕으로 이민정책 분야를 수정 전개하기 위한 설계 원칙과 본표, 보조표를 제안하였다. 수정 전개된 듀이십진분류표는 이민정책을 다루는 주요 분야에 적용될 수 있으며, 이민 정책 관련 전문 연구기관이나 도서관에서 소장 자료를 효과적으로 분류하고 조직하며 이민정책 전문 정보를 통합 관리하기 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 것이다.

Abstract

This study investigated and analyzed various library classification systems and related literature in order to suggest some modifications and expansion of the Dewey Decimal Classification, the 23rd edition (DDC 23) in the area of immigration policy - an interdis- ciplinary subject - for the best information organization and services. First of all, definitions and scopes of the immigration policy were dealt with and then primary subject areas of it were selected. And then, DDC, Library of Congress Classification, Korean Decimal Classification, and Universal Decimal Classification were compared and analyzed according to the structures, headings and characteristics. Finally, modified classification schedules in immigration policy of the DDC 23 - the most frequently used one with an regular revision was proposed with their principles and main schedules with an auxiliary table. It can be used for an effective information organization in immigration policy area and it will be useful for many libraries and research institutes on immigration policy.

본 연구는 도서관의 구체적이고 실제적인 폐교 활용방안에 앞서, 폐교 현황과 활용 사례를 기반으로 최근 도서관의 폐교 활용 트렌드를 파악하고 도서관의 폐교 활용 가능성 및 방향성을 확인하고자 하였다. 사례조사를 통하여 폐교를 활용한 도서관 건립은 복합문화공간 제공, 친환경적 공간 제공, 지역 커뮤니티 장소 제공 등 기존의 공공도서관과는 또 다른 특색을 가진 도서관으로 재탄생할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 연구 결과를 기반으로 향후 도서관의 폐교 활용 방향을 다음과 같이 제시하였다: 지역경제 기여와 지역의 재활성화 기회 제공, 지역주민을 위한 생활 밀착형․친화형 공간, 노인복지․요양서비스․귀농 생활 등과 연계한 공간의 재활용, 폐교를 활용한 부가 가치 창출과 지역 비즈니스 창출, 환경친화적 공간으로 구성, 복합문화공간의 형태로 구성된 통합적인 공간으로 활용, 지역의 커뮤니티 센터 역할 수행, 지역의 요구를 충족․보완할 수 있는 공간으로 재활용.

Abstract

Prior to the concrete and practical use of closed schools, this study was designed to identify trends in the use of closed schools, and the possibility and direction of the library’s use of closed schools based on the status of closed schools and use cases. As a result of the case analysis, the building of libraries using closed schools can be reborn as libraries with different characteristics from general public libraries, such as providing complex cultural spaces, eco-friendly spaces, and local community places. In addition, based on the results of the study, future direction of library closure is suggested as follows: Provide local economic contribution and local revitalization opportunities, life-friendly and friendly space for local residents, recycling space linked with elderly welfare, care service, urban to rural Immigrants, creation of added value and creation of local business using closed schools, environment-friendly space, recycling as a complex community center, recycled into a space that meets and complements local needs.
