인터넷 환경과 디지털자원의 활용환경이 빠르게 변화됨에 따라 탐색과 브라우징을 제공해주는 정보시스템의 인터페이스 또한 새롭게 변해가고 있다. 특히 최근에 검색 인터페이스에서 많이 사용되고 있는 긴 리스트의 메뉴항목을 이용자가 보다 쉽게 브라우징하고 선택할 수 있도록 하기 위하여 시각화기법을 이용하여 디스플레이하고 있다. 본 연구는 이용자와 데이터 특성에 맞는 긴 메뉴항목 시각화 기법을 제안하기 위하여 긴 리스트의 메뉴항목을 시각화하기 위하여 많이 사용되고 있는 기법 즉 트리구조 메뉴, 목차방식 메뉴, 롤-오버방식 메뉴, 클릭방식 메뉴, 어안렌즈방식 메뉴를 비교하였다 그 결과 계층구조 메뉴 중에서는 전문가는 목차방식 메뉴를, 초보자는 트리구조 메뉴를 선호하고, 또 순차적 구조 메뉴 중에서는 전문가와 초보자 모두 롤-오보방식 메뉴를 선호하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
Abstract
With the rapid change of the Web and E-transaction application, the search interface is providing more powerful search and visualization methods, while offering smoother integration of technology with task. Especially, visualization techniques for long menu-lists are applied in retrieval system with the goal of improving performance in users ability to select one item from a long list. In order to review visualization techniques appropriate to the types of users and data set, this study compared the five visualization browsers such as the Tree-structured menu, the Table-of-contents menu, the Roll-over menu, the Click menu, and Fisheye menu. The result of general analyses shows that among the hierarchical methods, the experienced group prefers the Table-of-contents method menu, whereas the novices group prefers the Tree-structure method menu. Among the linear methods, the two groups prefer the Roll-over menu. The Roll-over menu is most preferred among the five browsers by the two groups.

본 연구의 목적은 대학도서관 웹사이트의 효율적인 이용을 위하여 웹사이트 메뉴구조와 용어를 제안하는데 있다. 메뉴구조는 7가지의 웹사이트 메뉴패턴을 기준으로 분석하였고, 용어는 빈도순에 의한 항목을 분석하였다. 메뉴구조의 분석결과는 전반적으로 2가지 이상의 메뉴구조를 혼합하여 사용하고 있었고, 구조패턴은 <테이블>과 <프레임 + 테이블> 메뉴패턴이 유리한 것으로 나타났다. 메뉴에 사용된 용어는 다양하게 나타나고 있어서 체계적인 재분류와 절제된 표현이 요구된다. 본 연구의 결과는 도서관 웹사이트 제작자와 일선 사서들의 메뉴구조와 용어선정 문제에 도움을 주고, 이용자에게 도서관이 제공하는 서비스의 개념적 혼동과 이해부족 문제를 해소할 것으로 기대 된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to propose new menu structure and terms to be used by Website design for utilization of academic library Website. The menu structure was analyzed, based on seven menu patterns of Website which is widely used, and terms were analyzed by the frequency appearing at the Website. According to the analyzed result, the menu structure used to more than two menu patterns and the terms appear variety. The profitable menu pattern appears 〈table〉 and 〈frame + table〉 menu structures and the terms needs to systematic re-classification and controlled presentation. It is expected that this study can help a designer to the development and implementation of efficient Website. It helps not only to solve the problem of menu structure and term selection for librarian, but get rid of confusion of library services for users.

이용자를 시스템 디자인 과정에 적극적으로 참여하는 것이 유용한 정보 시스템의 디자인을 성공시키는 필수요소이다. 본 논문에서는 이용자 중심의 시스템 디자인에 관한 대표적인 방법론을 조사하고, 그 조사결과에 따라 최적의 이용자 모델을 제안하였다. 최적의 정보시스템을 설계하기 위해 실제 이용자들이 자신들의 정보요구를 만족시키기 위해 어떠한 정보를 필요로 하는지와 그들이 수립하는 일련의 정보전략을 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 사용한 분석기법은 더빈의 Sense-Making 이론에서 사용한 Sense-Making Timeline 인터뷰이다. 특히 이 연구에서 제시된 이용자 모델은 이 연구에서 사용된 소프트웨어가 본래 가지고 있던 메뉴 배열순서와는 상이한 절차(timeline)를 보여주고 있다. 궁극적으로 본 연구에서는 장래에 수행되어질 시스템 디자인과 그 평가에 적용시킬 수 있기 위해, 이용자 모델수립에 필요한 개발과정의 단계들을 제시하였다.
Abstract
In order to make interactive computing systems, including information systems, usable it is important to bring users into the design process. This article surveys and introduces several major system design approaches that are widely accepted as approaches from a users' perspective. A user model developed by the author is introduced following these existing approaches. This user model is developed from actual users' understanding of their goals and strategies to solve their information needs by using Dervin's Sense-Making Theory with Sense-Making Timeline Interviews. This user model reveals a different timeline from the default menu presentation orders that originally comes with the software. Steps for developing a user model from the Sense-Making Timeline Interviews are suggested for further application and guidelines in developing user models for system design and evaluation.

본 연구의 목적은 이용자에게 효율적인 도서관 및 정보이용안내를 제공하는데 있다 본 연구의 목적달성을 위하여, 도서관 FAQ의 구조적 특성과 질의내용을 분석하여 효과적인 FAQ의 접근단계와 환경변화에 따른 안내항목을 제안하였다. 또한 도서관이용법과 관련된 도서내용과 FAQ질의 내용을 비교 분석하여 새로이 추가되거나 강화되어야 할 내용을 제안하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 도서관 이용에 관한 FAQ의 작성과 관련하여 포함되어야 할 사항의 결정은 물론 도서관 정보이용 교재개발 등의 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide library users with the effective way of use on academic library and its collection. In order to achieve this purpose the menu structure and question contents appearing at the FAQs of academic library Website were analyzed. And also, guidelines for effective use of a university library via FAQ at different access stages were proposed. It is expected that the result of this study can help both a Web designer to the development and implementation of efficient library FAQs and a creator of a library use guidebook.
