초록
전자저널의 활용이 급속히 증가하면서 도서관에서는 자관에서 구입되는 전자저널이 얼마나, 어떻게 활용되고 있는지에 대한 관심이 증가하였다. 또한 전자정보 컨소시엄 주관기관에서도 컨소시엄 내에서 유통되는 학술자원의 이용통계에 대한 분석을 통해 국가 차원의 전자학술저널의 유통 현황 파악 및 수요자 중심의 정보수집 정책 개발이 필수적이다. 그러나 기존의 수작업에 의존한 이용통계 수집과 출판사에서 제공하는 저널 이용통계 보고서만으로는 이용에 대한 포괄적이고 심층적인 분석이 불가능하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 대용량 이용통계 수집 및 분석의 기반 마련을 위해 스크린 스크래핑과 SUSHI 프로토콜을 적용한 전자저널 이용통계 자동수집 시스템을 구현하였다. 또 저널 서지정보 및 컨소시엄 계약 데이터베이스를 연동하여 심층적인 이용통계 분석정보를 생성할 수 있는 방안을 제안하였다.
Abstract
The proliferating use of e-journals has led increasing interest in collecting and analyzing usage statistic information. However, the existing manual method and simple journal usage reports provided by publishers hinder the effective collection of large-scale usage statistics and the comprehensive/in-depth analysis on them. Thus we have proposed a hybrid automatic method of collecting e-journal usage statistics based on screen scraping and SUSHI protocol. In addition, the generation method of summary statistics presented in graphs, charts and tables has been suggested in this study. By utilizing the suggested system and analysis data, librarians can compose various reports on budget or operation of the libraries.
초록
본 연구는 학술지 평가를 위한 경제성 분석 모형을 도출하였으며, 이를 이용한 사례분석을 수행하였다. 이 모형은 비용요소에 구독비용뿐만 아니라 제본, 주문, 그리고 클레임 등의 관리에 소요되는 총 비용을 포함하였으며, 편익요소에는 이용 빈도만을 다루었던 기존의 평가 모형과는 달리 유용성을 포함하여 종합적인 분석모형을 제시하였다. 유용성은 학술지가 기관의 성격에 맞게 유용하게 활용되었는지에 따라 등급으로 평가되도록 고안되었다. 이 모형은 최근 연구에 가장 중요한 자원으로 활용되고 있는 웹 기반 전자 학술지의 통계를 토대로 측정할 수 있도록 고안되었다. KDI 국제정책대학원 도서관을 대상으로 한 사례분석에서 이용자의 연구 성과물에 활용된 학술지는 가장 높은 등급인 3점을 부여하였으며, 전문 다운로드나 검색에 활용된 학술지는 각각 2점과 1점을 부여하였다. 사례분석은 분석 결과 상위 20위에 포함되어 있는 학술지의 편익이 전체의 75%를 차지하며, 이용자의 유형별 학술지 이용 행태에 차이가 있음이 나타났다. 이 모형은 특히 전문 도서관의 사서들이 학술지의 가치를 평가할 수 있는 기본 틀을 제공할 수 있는 계기가 될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.
Abstract
This study attempts to derive an economic analysis model for journal evaluation and conducts a case analysis based on the model. Total costs are calculated and include administrative fees (such as binding, ordering, claiming, etc.) and subscription costs. The model quantifies qualitative benefits to users, a utility that combines usage data that has also been evaluated in the existing economic analysis models. The model is designed to tallly the usage statistics of the web-based electronic journals, which have become important resources for research. Rankings are assigned based on how items are utilized to the goal of the mother institution. In the case study based on the KDI School Library, the highest ranking of 3 was assigned to journals that patrons used for citation in their outputs. For journals that were used background information, i.e. full text downloading or browsing, each was assigned ranking of 2 and 1, respectively. According to the analysis, the top 20 journals provided 75% of the entire library utility, showing different user behaviors among different cohorts. We expect that the model makes it possible for librarians to measure the value of journals. It can provide a basic tool for journal selection, particularly in special libraries with custom needs.
