초록

전자책 서비스업체는 전자책에 대한 충분한 데이터를 제공하고 있지 않기 때문에 대부분의 도서관은 전자책의 목록정보를 도서관의 목록에 자동으로 다운로드할 수 없다. 본 논문은 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 다양한 메타데이터 간의 호환성 및 상호운용성을 확보하기 위하여 전자책 라이브러리를 위한 메타데이터를 개발하였다. 이를 위해 전자책 서비스업체에서 사용하는 메타데이터, KS X 6100 메타데이터, 더블린코어, MARC, TEI Header등을 비교 분석하여 공통의 메타데이터 요소들을 도출하였다. 도출된 공통의 메타데이터 요소를 핵심 기술 요소로 정의하고, 그 외 전자책 고유 특성을 나타내는 메타데이터 요소를 상세 및 추가 기술 요소로 정의하였다.

Abstract

The information about eBook cannot be added automatically to library catalog because the eBook Service Provider does not provide enough eBook metadata. Therefore, this paper was developed the eBook library's metadata in order to maintain the compatibility and interoperability among various metadata standard. In trying to accomplish this, we have comparatively analyzed the eBook service provider's metadata, KS X 6100 metadata, Dublin Core, MARC, and TEI Header, and extracted common metadata elements from them. We defined these common metadata elements as a core element and added other elements that uniquely describe eBook characteristics as a detailed and additional elements for eBook metadata.

본 연구는 어린이 도서관 서비스 제공자인 사서와 어린이 이용자의 전자책 인식 및 이용을 살펴보고 서비스 개선 방안을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 5개 어린이 도서관에 근무하는 사서 55명을 대상으로 전자책에 대한 인식과 이용, 서비스 현황, 개선 사항을 파악하였다. 또한 동일한 도서관의 어린이 이용자 30명을 선정하여 전자책에 대한 인식과 이용행태를 조사하였다. 두 집단의 전자책에 대한 인식과 이용행태를 비교 분석하였으며, 어린이 도서관의 전자책 서비스 개선 방안으로 전자책 콘텐츠와 공간 및 시설의 충분한 제공, 이용자 교육 프로그램 개발과 적극적인 전자책 서비스 홍보, 전자책 담당 사서의 전문성을 개발할 수 있는 프로그램 제공의 필요성을 제시하였다.

Abstract

The purposes of this study are to investigate the perception and use of e-books by librarians and children and to suggest important elements to improve e-book services at the children's libraries. User survey questionaries and interviews from fifty five librarians and thirty children were carried for the perceptions and the use of e-books at five children's libraries. Based upon the data analysis from two groups, three important elements for improving e-book services of the libraries were suggested as follows: providing enough e-book contents, facilities and spaces, developing e-book user education programs with proactive pubic relations, and providing professional continuing education programs regarding e-books to librarians.

본 연구는 전자책 이용률이 높은 디지털 네이티브 세대인 20대를 대상으로 전자책 구독서비스에 대한 인식을 파악하고자 하였다. 설문조사와 사용성 평가(usability testing)를 병행한 혼합연구 방법을 통해 전자책 이용률이 높은 20대 대학생의 전자책 구독 서비스이용 실태 및 서비스에 대한 인식을 조사하였다. 설문조사를 통해 국내 대학생 202명의 의견을 수집하였고, 전자책 비이용자와 이용자를 구분하여 분석하였다. 설문 결과, 비이용자와 이용자 간의 전자책에 인식의 차이가 나타났으며, 휴대성 및 편의성은 두 연구 참여자 그룹에게 공통적으로 나타나는 전자책의 장점으로 조사되었다. 사용성 평가에서 사용된 ‘밀리의 서재’ 애플리케이션은 가장 대중적인 전자책 플랫폼으로 해당 서비스를 활용하여 전자책 이용 경험이 없는 20대 대학생 10명을 대상으로 평가가 진행되었다. 실험 결과, 연구 참여자들은 전자책의 편의성, 디자인, 다양한 부가 기능, 가성비 등에 대해 긍정적인 반응을 보인 반면, 흥미 부족, 기능 실용성, 터치 오류 및 오작동, 장서 부족, 시스템 문제에 대해서는 부정적인 의견을 나타냈다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess the perception of e-book subscription services among the digitally native generation in their twenties, who have a high e-book usage rate. This study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining survey responses and usability testing. It aimed to assess the awareness and usage of e-book subscription services among university students in their twenties, a demographic known for their high utilization of electronic devices and e-books. The survey was conducted among 202 university students, and the responses were categorized and examined based on whether they were users or non-users. As a result of the survey, I found there is different awareness of e-book between users and non-users, on the other hand, convenience and portability are the strong point of e-books for users and non-users commonly also. Usability testing was performed on a group of 10 university students in their twenties who had not previously used the ‘Millies Library’ application, which is renowned as the most widely-used e-book platform. Following the experiment, participants expressed positive feedback regarding various optional features, convenience, design, and cost-effectiveness. However, they also had negative reactions concerning touch errors, malfunctions, functional practicality, a lack of interest, system issues, and the absence of a library.

전자책은 전용 단말기 기술의 향상으로 꾸준히 주목을 받고 있으나, 전자책의 효율성과 인지도에 비하여 상대적으로 이용률이 낮다. 이 연구에서는 전자책 이용 환경을 개선하고 이용자들의 필요와 요구를 만족시키기 위하여 먼저 전자책의 이용과 이용성 연구 설계에서 제안하고 있는 원칙과 기존 휴리스틱 연구 유형에 대한 문헌 조사를 실시하였다. 이에 근거하여 전자책 이용 경험자들을 대상으로 목적성 표집을 하였고 모집된 22명의 실험 참여자들은 휴리스틱 평가를 실시하였다. 본 연구의 실험을 통하여 지적된 이용성 문제와 요구된 이용 편리성을 모두 종합하여 최종 10개의 휴리스틱을 도출하여 제시하였다.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance the usability of eBook reader programs on personal computers through heuristic evaluation in order to learn users’ perceptions and derive key elements for interface design. For this purpose, the traditional usability evaluation and heuristic evaluation method were studied. A total of 22 evaluators of the heuristic evaluation were taken by purposive sampling to test the interface of eBook reader on PCs. This study suggested ten heuristics that focus on improving and specializing the usability aspects of reading digital materials.

The purpose of this study is to present a theoretical framework and practical methodology to extend the scope of Library and Information Science by incorporating the usability evaluation of e-book, which has considerably increased in proportion in the digital library. By surveying e-book users and through statistical analysis, it was found that rebuilding a set of usability evaluation factors for e-books is necessary to activate e-books in the digital libraries. 초록

대학생의 전자책 이용에 대한 이해를 돕고 현황을 파악하기 위하여 A대학교 학생들을 표집하여 설문조사와 면접을 수행하였다. 466명의 응답에 기초하여 분석한 결과를 보면, 대학생들의 전자책과 서비스에 대한 인지도는 낮은편이며, 약 30%가 이용경험을 가지고 있고, 접근경로는 대학도서관사이트가 지배적이다. 이용자의 73%가 3권 이하의 전자책을 읽었으며, 이용 분야는 다양하나 문학과 장르문학에 치우쳐 있고, 목적은 학술적 독서와 개인적 독서로 양분되어 있다. 부가기능에 대한 인지도와 활용 수준은 미약하다. 이용자들의 만족도 또한 낮고, 50% 이상이 중립적 견해를 보이고 있다. 이용 경험이 없는 학생들의 비이용 요인은 주로 불편함과 관련지식 부족으로 나타났다. 그러나 비이용자의 약 88%가 향후 이용의지를 표명하고 있다. 면접조사 결과를 보면, 적극적 이용자들은 전자책의 유용성을 인식하고, 화면독서에 친숙하며, 실용도서를 이용하는 것을 알 수 있다. 그러나 이들의 부가기능 인지도 및 활용수준 그리고 만족도 또한 낮다. 분석 결과에 따라, 이용 활성화를 위한 홍보, 생산의 다양화, 교육, 서비스 평가의 필요성이 제언되었다.

Abstract

To understand the use of the ebooks among undergraduate students, a questionnaire was devised and collected data from 466 respondents. The level of ebook and its service awareness appears to be low, and only about 30% of the students have used ebooks in the past. Students access ebooks primarily through the library homepage. 73% of the users read 3 ebooks and below. The subject and area of reading is fairly spread, however literary works and genre fiction were most popular. And the purpose is split into academic and private reading. Most of the users lack of knowledge about additional functions. Overall satisfaction level is low. Discomfort and ebooks illiteracy constitute the major reasons of nonuse, however about 88% of the nonusers show willingness to use in the future. According to the interview, active users are familiar with the screen reading as well as perceived advantages of ebooks. Nontheless, their satisfaction level is still low. Based on the results, recommendations for creating awareness, education, production development and service evaluation are suggested to promote the ebooks use.

최근 전자책이 점차 대중화되고 다양한 전자책 단말기가 출현하고 있다. 본 연구는 전자책 단말기의 사용성 평가를 위한 평가 요소를 정의하고, 그 요소를 기초로 하여 전자책 단말기의 사용성 평가 실험을 수행하였다. 실험 대상 전자책 단말기는 가장 많이 이용되고 있는 3종을 선정하였으며 피실험자는 중학생, 대학생, 직장인으로 구성된 15명을 대상으로 하였다. 실험 결과 아이패드의 사용성이 가장 우수한 것으로 조사되었으며, 상대적으로 전자책 전용 단말기인 아마존 킨들의 경우 터치 기능이 없는 것이 상당한 사용성 저해 요인인 것으로 응답되었다. 또한 전자책 단말기가 제공하는 고유의 하드웨어 및 소프트웨어적 사용성이 사용자에게 매우 중요한 요소이며, 전자책 단말기의 하드웨어적 측면과 연관된 기기 휴대성이 전자책 단말기의 전반적인 사용성에 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

Abstract

Many e-book readers have become available as e-books are in popular use these days. We first developed the evaluation criteria and elements for testing the usability of e-book readers and then examined the usability of three e-book readers. The usability testing was conducted using three e-book readers that were most popular with 15 participants that consisted of middle school students, university students, and office workers. The study found that iPad showed the best usability. In case of Amazon Kindle, participants indicated that the lack of the touch function imposed a great deal of negative impact on the usability of the interface. Also, the hardware- and software-oriented usability provided by an e-book reader was considered to be a very important element for the users, and the portability in connection with the hardware-oriented aspect of an e-book reader was shown to be of great effect to the overall usability of an e-book reader.

OPAC내에 전자책 패키지의 서지레코드 구축시 서지레코드의 중복과 비일관된 목록기술은 이용자의 자원 식별에 어려움을 주었다. 이에 본 연구는 전자책 패키지의 서지레코드 표준화를 위해 공급자중립 전자책 서지레코드 지침의 적용방안을 모색하였다. 연구방법으로 문헌연구를 통해 전자책 목록에 관한 이론적 배경, 국내외 전자책관련 목록규칙 및 입력지침, 공급자중립 전자책 서지레코드 입력지침을 조사하였으며, 홈페이지 조사를 통해 국내 15개 대학도서관의 전자책 패키지의 서지레코드 구축현황을 조사하였다. 이를 바탕으로 국내 전자책 패키지의 서지레코드 표준화를 위한 공급자중립 전자책 서지레코드 지침의 적용방안을 목록규칙, KORMARC, 중립레코드 측면에서 제시하였다. 본 연구는 국내 도서관과 공급자 모두를 위한 전자책 패키지 서지레코드의 입력지침 방안을 모색한 것으로 OPAC에서 전자책의 FRBR 구현을 가능하게 할 것이다.

Abstract

It was difficult for user to identify e-books due to some problems such as duplicable bibliographic records and inconsistent descriptive cataloging when cataloging the bibliographic records of the e-book packages in OPAC. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find the applicable methods of the provider neutral e-book(e-monograph) MARC record guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of the provider supplied e-book package. Through the literature reviews and homepage analysis of 15 university libraries in domestic, the theoretical background on cataloging e-book, the descriptive cataloging of e-book, the provider-neutral e-monograph MARC record guideline as new standard for e-book, and the libraries practices of cataloging bibliographic records of the e-book package were inquired. Based on these analysis, it was to suggest applicable methods of provider neutral e-book(e-monograph) MARC record guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of domestic e-book packages in aspect of cataloging rule, KORMARC, and neutral bibliographic records. This study will contribute to build FRBRization of the e-books in OPAC as finding the guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of the e-book packages for both providers and libraries.

본 논문은 초중등 학교도서관의 전자책 적정 구매 모델을 제안하기 위하여 전자책의 특성, 전자책 가격 결정에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석, 그리고 가격결정모델과 구매방법에 대한 사례조사, 환경, 정부의 역할 등을 연구하였다. 이를 기반으로 전자책 구매를 위한 적정 모델을 제안하였고, 제안된 모델의 현실적 활용을 위해 공청회, 전국교육청 학교도서관 담당자 및 전문가 등의 의견을 수렴하였다.

Abstract

This paper is studied in order to develop the models that are appropriate for the procurement of electronic books at the school libraries. To develop the model, the following factors were reviewed: the characteristics of an electronic book, the factor analysis that affect the electronic book price, use case, environment, the role of government for the price decision model and procurement method. The models were proposed based on the above analysis and review. In addition, the proposed models reflect various opinions that the school libraries can apply.

이 연구는 도서관의 전자책 서비스가 지속되기 위한 전제 조건으로서, 전자책 라이선스의 합리적인 개선방안을 마련하기 위한 것이다. 전자책 라이선스를 둘러싸고 벌어지는 국내 도서관과 출판계의 첨예한 갈등을 이해하고, 이를 바탕으로 그 해결방안을 제안하고자 한다. 이를 위해서 전자책 대출 라이선스가 가지는 법적인 의미를 분석한다. 출판계와 도서관이 갈등을 빚는 근본적인 원인을 전자책의 특성을 함께 다루었다. 아울러 전자책 라이선스의 다양한 유형을 정리하고 우리나라를 비롯한 세계 주요 국가들(미국, 독일, 프랑스, 일본)의 도서관 전자책 라이선스 현황과 갈등의 양상을 파악하였다. 이를 바탕으로 국내의 문제를 해결하는 데 도움이 될 시사점을 제시하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a reasonable improvement plan for e-book licenses as a prerequisite for the continued operation of library e-book services. The study aims to understand the fierce conflict surrounding e-book licenses between domestic libraries and the publishing industry and to propose solutions based on this understanding. To achieve this, the legal meaning of e-book licenses is analyzed, and the fundamental reasons for conflict between the publishing industry and libraries are examined in relation to the characteristics of e-books. In addition, various types of e-book licenses are classified, and the status of library e-book licenses and conflicts in major countries around the world, including Korea, the United States, Germany, France, and Japan, are investigated. Based on this, implications that can help resolve domestic issues are presented.
